Wellness and Prevention
A major focus of our practice is achieving an accurate and expedient diagnosis. We devote time to questioning our pet owners and listening to their answers because an accurate history is a highly valuable piece of the diagnostic puzzle. An equally important factor is a head to toe thorough and detailed physical exam which will be performed after the history is obtained. One important element that we focus on is educating our pet owners on wellness care to ensure that your pet not only receives the best care from us, but from you as well.
Our mission is to acquire a definitive diagnosis coupled with specific targeted evidence based therapy which will lead to cure or control the disease process. Our veterinarians consult with each other, veterinary specialists, and the latest academic research to ensure that your pet is treated with the latest advances in medical care. Diagnostics & Hospital Care
Our mission is to acquire a definitive diagnosis coupled with specific, targeted, evidence based therapy which will lead to cure or control the disease process. Our veterinarians consult with each other, veterinary specialists, and the latest academic research to ensure that your pet is treated with the latest advances in medical care. We take the time to ensure you understand the disease process, what it means for your pet, and how you can support your pet.
Our diagnostic equipment and treatment offerings include:
- Digital Radiology (x-ray)
- Digital Dental Radiology
- In house Laboratory
- Laser Therapy
- Blood Transfusions
- Emergency and Critical Care
- Laproscopy and Endoscopy
Our attention to detail is directed toward providing gentle, meticulous, and safe procedures coupled with excellent pain management. Trained assistants are assigned to each patient and our patients are continually monitored with multiple devices. Supportive techniques such as fluid therapy and warming devices are standards of care for your pet.
Minimally invasive surgery with rigid endoscopes is commonly employed when appropriate for that patient’s procedure. This leads to less pain and a more rapid recovery. Preventative gastropexy and biopsy of the liver, kidney, or spleen are common examples. Research clearly shows that proper pain control leads to faster recoveries, therefore multi modal pain management is also a standard part of our care.
Intravenous pain medications, constant rate infusions, epidural anesthesia and local and regional nerve blocks are frequently used. We believe that if it would be painful to us, then it is similar for our patients and preemptive pain management is a key part of our practice.
Due to our extensive experience, we are able to offer a very comprehensive range of surgical procedures. If, however, we do not have extensive experience with a particular procedure, we will refer these patients to a specialist.
Disease prevention is a major component of our dental care. Periodontal disease is by far the most common disease of the mouth in our veterinary patients. Foul breath is the hallmark clinical sign for this disease. Once it is present, periodontal disease is progressive. The removal of tartar and plaque both visible and below the gum line is essential in the prevention of this disease.
While your pet is under anesthesia, our veterinarians examine every tooth individually and decide on diagnosis and proper therapy. Digital dental radiographs are utilized when needed. Tartar and plaque are removed, and then detailed polishing and sealant application complete the procedure similar to what is done in human dentistry.
Constant patient monitoring and supportive therapy are utilized to ensure comfort and safety for your pet. We are able to perform all types of tooth extractions, periodontal procedures, tooth restoration, and tumor removal. The comfort of our patients is a top priority and pain management is tailored to your pet’s needs.
Boarding & Bathing
Our resolve is to provide a safe and comfortable experience for your pet. To minimize disease potential, our kennels have stainless steel walls, quartz epoxy floors, natural light, and excellent ventilation. Cats that stay with us have a dedicated room with a window for natural lighting, stainless steel cages, and a separate ventilation system to minimize disease transmission and ensure comfort.
Care of our boarders is provided by trained veterinary assistants, the same ones that perform hospital duties, ensuring that your boarded pet is observed and cared for by educated and dedicated individuals. Daily walks for each dog and focused time with each cat allows us to observe and record habits and to adjust our care to each pet’s needs.
Although we are not primarily a grooming salon, we do offer bathing services by appointment Monday through Friday. Clients using our bathing or grooming services should expect to drop their pet off at the office somewhere between 8 and 9 am the morning of the service. Pets are generally ready to be picked up by 4 pm that afternoon.
Baths include: Bath using premium shampoo, Ear cleaning, Nail trimming, Anal Gland Expression, Blow drying, Brushing out.
Certain grooming services can be performed in-hospital out of necessity, if a patient requires sedated grooming due to anxiety or behavior issues, or by specific client requests. Otherwise, we will be happy to provide a list of area groomers for breed specific cuts or routine grooming needs.
